내용 : 일본 북해도(홋카이도)산 이상돌기 암모나이트 폴리프티초세라스(Polyptychoceras sp.) 표본으로 중생대 백악기 지층에서 발굴된 것이다.

폴리프티초세라스는 파이프관을 수평으로 여러 번 접은 것 같은 특이한 구조의 암모나이트이다. 성장 과정에서 3회 이상 직선과 굴곡을 반복한다. “이상돌기”라 해서 기형이라는 의미는 아니고 일정한 규칙에따라 아주 전형적인 모습을 가지고 있다. 각각의 모양은 특별한 의미가 있는 것 같다. 이 표본은 1회, 2회 굴곡 그리고 3회 굴곡까지 완벽한 표본이다. 그러나 2회에서 굴곡에서 일부분이 유실되었다. 그러나 전반적으로는 거의 완벽한 표본으로 박물관이나 전문가에게 적극 추천하고 싶은 표본이다.

Polyptychoceras는 중생대 후기백악기에 멸종한 암모나이트로 아시아, 유럽, 북남미에서보고되고있다. 이 종이 처음보고된 것은 일본의 1927년 히사카츠 야베(Hisakatsu Yabe)에 의해서이며 8종이 보고되었다. 그리고 sub종으로 서브티코세라스(Subtychoceras)를 추가한다.

Polyptychoceras is an extinct genus of ammonite from the Late Cretaceous of Asia, Europe, and North and South America. It was first named by Hisakatsu Yabe in 1927, and contains eight species and a subgenus, Subtychoceras, which contains one species.

P. vancouverensis 카나다 located around the Trent River and Puntledge River. Due to its shape, collectors of P. vancouverensis fossils often call it the "paperclip ammonite" or "candy cane".

P. haradanuin (Yokoyama)

Although the shafts in the fossils of the shells are usually parallel to each other, small aberrations during each growth stage often caused abrupt constrictions in the shape of the shell.
