설명(Description) : 미국 신생대 에오세 지층인 그린리버층은 와이오밍, 콜로라도 그리고 와이오밍에에 연결되어 있는 매우큰 지층으로 이곳에서는 어류화석이 매우 유명하다. 그러나 이 지층에서는 다양한 식물화석과 곤충화석 등이 같이 발견되는 지역이다. 이 표본의 화석은 공과식물로 분류되는 화석이다. 콩과는 잎자루가 잘 발달되어 있으며 주맥은 중심으로 부맥은 가장자리로 마주나기를 하며 가장자리는 밋밋한 잎을 하고 있다. 매우 좋은 표본이다. 거의 완벽한 맥을 보여주고 있으며, 작은 물고기화석도 같이 발견된다. 이물고기는 지금은 멸종된 청어과(Clupeidae)의 나이티아로 그린리버층에서는 가장 유명한 종이다.

The Green River Formation deposits of Wyoming, Colorado, and Utah are best known for their immaculately-preserved fish, but other examples are known as well, as this specimen attests. This is an example of a leaf from a member of the Leguminosae (Pea family), one of the largest of families of flowering plants. The family holds several plants of use to man as a food source due to the fact that they harbor nitrogen fixing bacteria, and so need little to no additional fertilizer. The deep brown color is a fine contrast to the light shale matrix, with the leaf well centered on the plate.
